NVIDIA has released a crucial software security update to address several vulnerabilities in its GPU display drivers, ensuring a safer experience for its users.

Among the eight resolved issues, two were classified as high-risk, highlighting the importance of updating to the latest driver versions.

High-Risk Vulnerabilities

The first major vulnerability, identified as CVE-2024-0150, involved a buffer overflow issue in the GPU display driver.

This flaw posed a significant risk, allowing attackers to overwrite memory buffers. In a worst-case scenario, this could lead to large-scale system compromises, including the potential for personal data leaks or manipulation.

The second critical issue targeted the virtual GPU (vGPU) manager, where a security flaw caused memory corruption. This vulnerability could be exploited by malicious actors, enabling code execution or unauthorized alterations to sensitive data on the host system.

Additional Vulnerabilities Resolved

In addition to these high-priority issues, NVIDIA also addressed six other vulnerabilities classified as medium severity. Although they posed less immediate risk, their resolution further strengthens system security for NVIDIA's broad user base.

Who Is Affected?
NVIDIA confirmed that these vulnerabilities could affect a wide range of its products, including:

  • GeForce GPUs (consumer graphics cards)
  • NVIDIA RTX (professional graphics solutions)
  • Quadro (workstation GPUs)
  • NVS product lines
  • Tesla GPUs (data center and AI platforms)

Given the extensive reach of these product lines, it’s essential for users across various platforms to apply the update.

How to Update Your Drivers

To benefit from the enhanced security, users should update their drivers to the following versions:

Windows:
Version 553.62 or 539.19

Linux:
Version 550.144.03 or 535.230.02 (depending on the driver branch)

These updates aim to mitigate the vulnerabilities effectively and ensure users are protected from potential exploits.

Why Updating Matters

With the prevalence of cyber threats targeting hardware and software vulnerabilities, keeping drivers up-to-date is crucial. NVIDIA’s proactive approach to addressing these issues demonstrates its commitment to user safety and maintaining trust within its ecosystem.

If you own an NVIDIA GPU, now is the time to check for updates and secure your system.

Don't wait—protect your data and enjoy a seamless experience with the latest drivers.
